LCD front camera systems – a safe bet on better vision
David against Goliath: to this day bad accidents happen at crossroads, T-junctions and roundabouts, because the drivers of utility vehicles overlook persons next to them who participate in traffic unprotected, e.g. pedestrians or cyclists. Every year 400 people in Europe die from the consequences of such accidents. Wishing to change this situation, the European Union has passed the “mirror directive”. Since January 2007 newly registered utility vehicles weighing above 7.5 t have to be fitted with new mirrors that comply with the EU’s 2003/97/EC mirror directive. WAECO PerfectView front camera systems meet this directive and provide extra safety.
Camera replaces mirror
Why it pays to invest in a front camera system
A professional driver’s job involves risky situations virtually every day, no matter if you are driving a truck or onstruction vehicle. The faster and clearer you visualise the situation, the better. PerfectView front camera systems make you aware of “weaker” road users moving in your blind spot zone sooner and more safely. Compared to mirrors installed for the same purpose, front cameras deliver pictures that are far less distorted. The picture you receive is crystal-clear, bright and high in contrast. Thanks to its compact design the camera does not protrude beyond the bodywork. It is therefore protected from damage and does not impair the design or the aerodynamics of the vehicle either – which even saves fuel. Once installed and aligned, the camera is optimally adapted to each driver.
For more comfort and convenience, you can combine the front camera system with the PerfectView GPS 30 signal transmitter. As a result, the system will only be enabled when the situation in the front area is getting acute – at speeds under 30 km/h, that is. When the speed exceeds 40 km/h the system is automatically disabled to avoid needless distraction of the driver. Universal unit, speed is calculated via GPS. No need to tap off signals from the vehicle!

2003/97/EC directive All utility vehicles with a permissible gross weight over 7.5 t have been subject, since January 2007, to the EU mirror directive. New vehicles may only be registered if they are equipped with indirect vision devices that comply with the directive. For the front area, this may as well be a camera-monitor system. An amended directive stipulates that wideangle and close-proximity mirrors must also be fitted on vehicles of 3.5 t and above – even on those already registered. |
Perfect front or side vision – in three system versions
For quick and easy implementation of the 2003/97/EC mirror directive of the European Union, WAECO offers three high-performance package solutions. All three systems feature a brilliant LCD monitor with LED background illumination and the compact ball camera, CAM 40. When combined with the new PerfectView GPS 30 signal transmitter, the camera only goes “on air” at a speed under 30 km/h. Another upgrade that makes sense is the combination with a reversing camera. In that case the two systems share one monitor without interfering one another.
