NEW SERVICE KIT FOR R744
WAECO INTRODUCES UPGRADE KIT FOR SERVICING R744 A/Cs
The first vehicles with CO2 air conditioning systems have reached the classic age at which they switch from the authorised workshop to the independent workshop. So far, investing in a special R744 air conditioning service unit has not been worthwhile for every independent workshop. After all, depending on the model, around €7,000 to €10,000 is required for a specialised unit.
How can the customer still be satisfied?
As an efficient solution, WAECO offers a significantly cheaper option for the R744 service on vehicles: the new CO2 upgrade kit.
Since January 2011, an EU directive has banned the use of refrigerants with a global warming potential of more than 150 in vehicle air conditioning systems. In the search for alternatives, some manufacturers are turning to carbon dioxide in selected models. With a GWP value = 1, CO2 is 1430 times less harmful to the environment than R134a. It also has a high cooling capacity and is available worldwide in large quantities at low cost. Sounds convincing, but it also has its downsides.
When servicing R744 air conditioning systems, workshops need to keep an eye on the high operating pressures, which are around four times higher than in conventional R134a air conditioning systems. Specialised equipment is therefore required for safety reasons alone.
It does not necessarily have to be a dedicated CO2 air conditioning service unit. Many workshops already have at least two air conditioning service units in the workshop anyway - for R134a and for R1234yf.
To meet the special requirements of R744 (CO2), especially the high pressures, it is basically sufficient to design the hoses and fittings appropriately. And, of course, the whole thing should be practical to use in everyday life.
With the new CO2 upgrade kit from WAECO, any current WAECO air conditioning service unit can be adapted for servicing R744 air conditioning systems in just a few simple steps.
The core component is a 4-way precision fitting manifold made of titanium, complete with pressure gauges and high-quality service hoses that can withstand an operating pressure of 120 - 140 bar. The set also includes a maintenance-free refrigerant scale. Fittings, hoses and service couplings are stored in a handy workshop case to save space.
