Un additif spécial, fluorescent, est injecté dans le circuit du fluide frigorigène – soit via la station de charge de climatisation, soit manuellement. Quelques nouveaux modèles de déshydrateurs sont déjà équipés d’usine de tels additifs. Lorsque les composants de la climatisation sont éclairés avec une lampe UV et examinés en portant des lunettes de protection UV jaunes, la fuite apparaît clairement illuminée. La visibilité est garantie même lorsqu’il s’agit de moteurs couverts d’huile et à une certaine distance. Contrairement à la méthode de l’azote hydrogéné, la détection des fuites par UV convient également pour repérer de minuscules fuites. Elle est même la seule méthode permettant de trouver les fuites dues aux vibrations.
