Uno speciale additivo fluorescente viene introdotto nel circuito del refrigerante attraverso la stazione di carica del climatizzatore o manualmente. È già contenuto in alcuni essiccatori di nuova fabbricazione. Illuminando i componenti con un’apposita luce UV e osservandoli attraverso gli occhiali di protezione dai raggi UV gialli, la perdita risulta facilmente visibile, anche se il motore è imbrattato d’olio o se la si osserva da una certa distanza. A differenza del forming gas, la rilevazione di fughe a UV è adatta anche per la rilevazione di fughe minime. Se si cercano di individuare perdite da vibrazione, è l’unico metodo possibile.
